words create worlds

About the collection

Creative direction
This ceramic collection was born from the meditation: our words have the power to create worlds. The intangible impact our voices – both audible and online – have to build up, or tear down.

The original artwork (above) depicts light in the midst of dark; representing pure and honorable words in the midst of a pervasive culture of dismay. If we choose to speak forth such words, our words have the ability to create edifying and life-giving worlds, a beacon of light out of the dark.

Artistic execution
Each piece was thrown by wheel as a globe, and crafted with intention to serve as a planter – reflecting in tangible form that words of hope and courage establish the soil from whence life can grow.

Every alphabet is etched by hand, spelling out words inspired from Philippians 4:8 and Galatians 5:22-23. This process gives rise to 10 unique pieces in the collection as no two pieces are the same. There is a rhythm to which these hand-etched words both emerge from, and dissolve into, a carved texture that emulate the expanse of earth's deep waters.

A celadon glaze of cerulean blue from 景德镇, the porcelain capital of the world, was selected to depict safety and calm serenity, while also a reflection of the hue of earth as viewed from the vantage point of the original artwork.

A piece from this collection in your home serves as an invitation to converse and consider:

What worlds are your words creating?
